Our guys have been practicing their testimonies for the past couple of weeks. All this practice culminated tonight with a specific outreach event that took place in our very own skatepark.
We started out by personally inviting friends and frequent customers to be apart of the night. This event was an invite only deal... so it was a special deal if you were invited. All of our invites new that they were going to have a great time skating the park for free, and they would also have the opportunities to hear the stories and testimonies of team leaders.
We started the night with prayer... of course. It is cool to see a group of guys bow their heads whether they believe or not, but just out of respect for our faith they showed us courtesy. Then we skated. We skated our hearts out, challenging each other to push for new tricks. Some tricks landed, some tricks bailed. The high point of the night being when Malik Jordan ollied off the top deck, out the loading dock, all the way to pavement outside of the park. It was at least 3 times his hight. Great stuff to see everyone cheer him on and celebrate in his victory.
When it came time, we slowed things down and started the testimonies . Robby, Ian, Trevor, and Joe all shared their stories. Stories of disliking the church, stories of never being a part of church, stories of drug abuse, stories of emptiness. Each story showing the redemption power of Christ in a different way. Simply beautiful. I wrapped the night up with an simple explanation of the Grace, Love, Forgiveness, and Peace that Jesus had to offer them, just like our guys had shared in their stories.
I closed in prayer, gave a time for the guys to ask Jesus to enter in, forgive, and be Lord of their lives. I asked for just a quick glance to be given if they had asked this for the fist time. 6 sets of eyes were staring back at me. I closed out in prayer and sent them on their way. To the 6 guys that looked up at me, I will be meeting to pray personally with each in the following week to continue and the discipleship process in their lives.
God is amazing. I am astonished each time He moves in our humble skatepark! It makes all the work, suffering, trials of patience, hard times, late nights, finances, and robberies all worth it in the end to know that more lives are being affected and are entering into relationship with Jesus because of these sacrifices.
God is moving at The Cinder Project... this is only the beginning of something huge!
Thank you all for your support and prayers!
